Why a Solopreneur Needs a Virtual Assistant

Why a Solopreneur Needs a Virtual Assistant

Let’s face it. You can’t be an expert at everything. You wear many hats when running a business, but you don’t have all the skills necessary to do everything at a professional level. That’s where virtual assistants come in.

For less than the cost of an employee, a virtual assistant can take some of those administrative, creative or technical tasks off your plate so you can focus on what you do best – run your business.

When was the last time you sat down and made a list of every little task you do related to running your business: networking (in person and online), marketing and social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, email campaigns, flyers, advertising), accounting (billing, invoicing, bookkeeping, banking, payroll), daily correspondence (email and phone calls), travel arrangements…and on and on.  Just making the list is exhausting, much less carrying it all out as the only employee.

If you are totally honest with yourself, you know you can’t do ALL of this and do it well. While you might try, there are some things you should leave to the experts – like tax returns and website design.

When was the last time you visited a company’s website, and despite all the acclaim for the service or product, the website is difficult to navigate, doesn’t show the business owner’s true talent, and is inconsistent with the message they are trying to convey? Do you hire that company? Perhaps, because you were personally recommended to them.

But what about the rest of the website’s visitors who are potential clients? In general, society as a whole relies more and more upon the internet. A website is often the first impression someone gets of your business. They would more than likely pass you by if your website didn’t give them a good sense of who you are. And it isn’t because you didn’t have a flashy website with rotating photos and video testimonials every few scrolls. It can still be professional while being simple. But when it’s not, that unprofessionalism reflects upon you as the business owner. If you don’t give an outward impression of expertise, customers might pass you by.

That’s where virtual assistants come in. VAs have the skillset to perform the tasks you can’t. They vary in their abilities, and businesses often hire more than one to perform different tasks.

You may ask how that can possibly save a business-owner money. First of all, VAs aren’t employees. As a business owner, you wouldn’t incur employer taxes, overhead, or pay out benefits such as vacation pay or health insurance. Second, you pay them only for the services they perform. Unlike an employee you pay by the hour, once a task is done, the clock stops until they start the next assignment. There’s no chatting over the water cooler or sharing posts on Facebook from their desks.

There are consequential benefits to your business as well. Productivity increases, profit increases, your data is more organized, and you have a filter between you and the rest of the world, letting you focus on your business, and not everything attached to it.

Are you ready to let go of complete control and hire a VA?
